Week: 07 Period: 25 UNIT 5: CAN YOU SWIM? Lesson 1 (1, 2) I. Objectives. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer question about what someone can/ cannot do. - Sentence Patterns: What can you do? − I can ___. - Vocabulary: can, skip, skate, cook, swim, but. 2. Skills. - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes. - Ss know to take care of their friends. 4. Competences: - Co-operation love schools and about daily activities of someone. - Self-study ability, ability to operate, live responsibly. - Using language to talk about the days of the week. II. Methods: - Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... III. Preparation. 1. Teacher’s preparation: CDs player, stereo, book. 2. Student’s preparation: Students’ aids: books, notebooks, workbooks. IV. Procedures. Look, listen and repeat - Tell Ss that they are going to read a story in which they ask/ answer Qs about what they can or cannot do. - Ask Ss to look at the picture and comment the content. - Ask pupils to identify the characters in the pictures: Where are they? What does Mai have? What are they doing? - Introduce new words by using the pictures: dance, draw, speak English, use a computer, play the piano, ride a bike - Play the recording - Ask sts to read in pairs - Check some pairs and correct - Explain the sentences: What can you do? I can sing. cannot =can’t Task 2. Point and say - Tell Ss that they are going to practice asking/ answering Qs about what they can do. - Have Ps look at the pictures and say what they can do - Call a pair complete the model, other pairs listen and give comments What can you do? - Ask Ss to practice in pairs. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class - Ask Ss to ask/answer what they can do - Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again. - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures - Remember some activities: read, cook, dance, skip, swim, skate, draw a picture, play , - Look at Pict./ p30 and describe. - Catch, answer - Listen - Listen. Week: 07 Period: 26 UNIT 5: CAN YOU SWIM? Lesson 1 (3, 4, 5) I. Objectives. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer question about what someone can/ cannot do. - Listen and tick the correct pictures. - Read, and fill the gapped sentences, using the pictures. - Play the Guessing game. - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills. - Listening, reading and speaking. 3. Attitudes. - Ss know to take care of their friends. 4. Competences: - Co-operation love schools and about daily activities of someone. - Self-study ability, ability to operate, live responsibly. - Using language to talk about the days of the week. II. Methods: - Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Homework (2’) - Ask Ss to match the words with the correct pictures - Ask Ss ask/answer what someone can do Task 3. Listen and tick: - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to three dialogues about someone’s abilities and tick the correct pictures. - Have pupils look at the pictures to identify the similarities and differences among them. Check understanding. - Play the recording (sometimes). - Get pupils to swap their answers before you check as a class. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. - Audio script: (Teachers' book/p45) Key: 1. a 2. c 3. a Task 4. Look and write - Tell pupils that they are going to complete the sentences to express ability, using the picture cues. - Give a few seconds for pupils to look at the pictures to identify what the character in each picture can do. Then have them find appropriate words to complete the sentences. If necessary, get them to work in pairs. - Get pupils to swap their answers before checking as a class. If there is enough time, call some pupils to read the complete sentences aloud. Key: 1.dance 2.skate 3.swim 4.cycle Task 5. Let's play - Tell pupils that they are going to play Guessing game. Follow the procedure in Games in the Introduction. - The one that gets most points wins. - Divide pupils into groups of five. - Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again. - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Lesson 2 (1, 2, 3) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer question about whether someone can do something. - Sentence Patterns: Can you ___? − Yes, I can. / No, I can’t. - Vocabulary: Play table tennis, play volleyball, play the piano, play the guitar 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes: Ss know to take care of their friends. 4. Competences: - Co-operation love schools and about daily activities of someone. - Self-study ability, ability to operate, live responsibly. - Using language to talk about whether someone can do something. II. Methods: - Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Look, listen and repeat - Tell Ss that they are going to read a story in which pupils express their ability. - Tell them that they are going to look at, listen to and repeat the dialogue between characters in the three pictures. - Ask pupils to look at the pictures to identify the characters and the context in which the language is used. Ask them questions such as Who are the boys? Where are they? and What are they doing?. Check comprehension. - Play the recording (sometimes). Task 3. Point and say - Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about someone’s ability. - Have them look at the bubbles to understand how to ask and answer questions about someone’s ability, using Can you ? Yes, I can. /No, I can’t. Ask pupils to look at four pictures to identify what the boy can do in each picture. - Point to the first picture and do an example with a pupil: Can you play the table tennis? Yes, I can. - Ask pupil to practice in pairs. Help Ss if they need - Check Language note: play + the + (musical instrument) Task 4. Let’s talk - Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answering about ability, using *What can you do? I can *Can you ? Yes, I can. /No, I can’t. - Do the task with one pupil as a model. Put the sentences on the board and do choral and individual repetition. Go around offering help and correcting pronunciation, if necessary. - Select some pairs of pupils to role-play in front of the class. - Ask/answer if someone can do - Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again. - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Lesson 2 (4, 5, 6) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer question about whether someone can do something. - Listen and number the pictures in the correct order. - Read and complete the gapped exchanges, using the pictures. - Sing the song Can you swim? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Listening, reading and speaking. 3. Attitudes: Ss know to take care of their friends. 4. Competences: - Co-operation love schools and about daily activities of someone. - Self-study ability, ability to operate, live responsibly. - Using language to talk about whether someone can do something. Methods: - Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Listen and number - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to four dialogues about what the four characters can do and number the pictures. - Ask them to look at the pictures and identify what the character in each picture can do. Check understanding. Task 5. Look and write - Play the recording more than once, if necessary, for pupils to listen and number the pictures. - Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. - Check Audio script: teacher’s book/47 Key: a2 b4 c3 d1 Task 6. Let’s sing - Tell pupils that they are going to write the answers to the questions about what the children can do, using the picture cues. - Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the character. - Have them write the appropriate answers. Set a time limit for pupils to do the task independently. Go around offering help, if necessary. - Sing the song in activity 6 - Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again. - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook.
