Week: 13 Period: 49 UNIT 8: WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU HAVE TODAY? Lesson 2 (1, 2, 3) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about when someone has a subject. - Sentence Patterns: When do you have ___? − I have it on ___. - Vocabulary: Mon., Tues., Wed., Thurs., Fri. 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Love their class, love subjects and love teachers. - United friend 4. Forming competence: - To know talk about their subjects. - Practise in pairs II. Methods: Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... III. Preparation. 1.Teacher’s preparation: CDs player, stereo, book. 2.Student’s preparation: Students’ aids: books, notebooks, workbooks. IV. Procedures. Look, listen and repeat - Tell Ss that they are going to read a story in which they ask/ answer Qs about school timetables, using: When do you have English? I have it on (days of the week) - Let sts talk about the characters in the pictures - Play the recording - Play the recording again (sometimes). - Go around and help Ss - Correct about the intonation, .... - Ask: Which sentence does T. ask N.? Which sentence does N. answer? Task 2. Point and say - Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about which days of the week we have subjects, using When do you have English? I have it on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays (note s after the days) - Have them look at the pictures to understand how the language is used in different contexts. Help Ss if they need - Point to the first picture and do the task with one pupil, using the expressions in the bubbles and the words under the picture. - Check as a class and correct pronunciation, if necessary. Task 3. Let’s talk - Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answer questions about school timetables, using What subjects do you have today? When do you have .? Who is your . teacher? - Go around to help them - Call some pairs to report in front of the class - Practice activity 1 again - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures again - Sing the song: What day is it today? - Look at the pictures in act 1/p54 and talk about them Who are they? Where are they? What are they doing? What are they talking about? - Listen. - Listen and repeat - Ss play the role of the dia. (PW) - Some Ps report - Answer: When do you have English? I have it on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. - Look at the pict and say aloud the words or phrases (S,S,S – PWs – GWs) - One works with T. Others listen - A few pairs to act out the dialogue in front of the class. - Work in pairs, one pupil asks the questions, the other answers - Report (some Ps) - Take note ********************************************************************* Week: 13 Period: 50 UNIT 8: WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU HAVE TODAY? Lesson 2 (4, 5, 6) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about when someone has a subject. - Listen and number the timetables in the correct order. - Read and fill the gapped paragraph, using the timetable. - Do the crossword puzzle. - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Listening, reading and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Love their class, subjects. - United friend 4. Forming competence: - To know talk about their subjects. - Practise in pairs II. Methods: Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Listen and number - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to four dialogues about different PE timetables and number them in the order they hear. Task 5. Look and write - Play the recording more than once, if necessary - Tell them that they should focus the days of the week. Key: a3, b4, c1, d2 Task 6. Let’s play - Tell pupils that they are going fill the gaps of the sentences relating to the school subjects. - Go around and offer help, if necessary - Check as a class. If there is enough time, call a few pupils to read aloud completed sentences. Key: 1.English 2. Wednesday 3. Wednesdays * Fun time: - Tell pupils that they are going to do the puzzle by writing the names of the school subjects. - Do number 1 as an example: Science. - Go around offering help, if necessary. - Correct in front of class Key: 1 Science, 2 Music, 3 English, 4 Vietnamese, 5 Maths - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures again - Ask/answer - Look at the pictures and identify the days where there is a PE learn... - Read aloud the days in Gs - Listen - Listen and number the pictures. - Swap their answers before checking - Look at the pict, talk about them to identify what the people like doing - Write down (individual, S-S, S-Ss) - Report on the small boards. - Look at the word subjects and the rows of boxes 1 to 5. - Discuss the possible answers in Ps or Gs - Some of them to say the answers. - Take note ********************************************************************* Week: 13 Period: 51 UNIT 8: WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU HAVE TODAY? Lesson 3 (1, 2, 3) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Pronounce the ending letter clusters ct in subject, and cts in subjects. - Listen and tick the correct boxes showing the words filling the gapped sentences. Then complete the sentences, and read them aloud. - Say the chant What subject do you have today? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Develop Ss listening, speaking & writing skills. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Confident when talking English - United friend - Love English more 4. Forming competence: - Know how to practise some sounds - Practise in pairs II. Methods: Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Listen and repeat - Tell pupils that they are going to practise saying the sounds of the letters ct and cts in the words subject and subjects respectively. - Play the recording and ask pupils to repeat a few times. - Put the letters ct and cts in the words subject and subjects and the sentences English is my favourite subject. and What subjects do you have today? on the board. - Play the recording a few more times and let pupils say the sentences, paying attention to the target sounds. Task 2. Listen and circle. Then say aloud - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to find the sounds ct or cts in the words subject and subjects and tick. - Give pupils a few seconds - Check pupils’ understanding. - Play the recording - Play the recording again for them to check their answers. - Get pupils to say the sentences aloud Audio script: T’s book/70 Key: 1subjects 2subject 3subjects 4subject Task 3. Let’s chant - Tell pupils that they are going to say the chant What subjects do you have today? What subjects do you have today? I have Maths, Music and Art. How often do you have Maths? I have it every day of the week. What is your favourite subject? English is my favourite subject. - Check comprehension. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. Show them how to chant and do actions. - Put them into groups of four. Get pairs or groups to sit opposite of each other and practice chanting and doing actions. Go around offering help, if necessary. - Call two groups of pupils to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm. - Chant a lot - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures again - Talk - Listen. Then listen and repeat - Look at the board and catch - Listen and repeat - Look at the book and read the sentences in silence and identify the words. - Listen. Lesson 3 (4, 5, 6) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Read the paragraph and complete the timetable. - Write about themselves, using the writing frame. - Ask for information from a friend in another class about his / her timetable, and tick the timetable provided. - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Develop reading, listening & writing skills. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Confident when talking English - United friend - Love English more 4. Forming competence: - Know how to practise some sounds - Practise in pairs II. Methods: Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... (10 minutes) - Tell pupils that they are going to read the text about Nga and complete the timetable. - Get them to look at the timetable and guess the subjects they can use to fill the gaps. - Ask pupils to read the text again and do the task - Set a time limit for pupils to do the task. - Go around the class and offer help, if necessary. - Ask pupils to compare their answers before checking as a class - Call four pupils to write their answers on the board. - Give feedback and correct mistakes * Key: 1 Vietnamese 2 Maths 3 Science 4 Art 5. Write about you and your school subjects (10 minutes) - Tell pupils that they are going to complete some sentences about their school subjects. - Have them work in pairs or groups to discuss what they are going to write - Give them time to do the task independently. - Get them to swap their answers - Ask two pupils to write their answers on the board. - Give feedback. Key: 6. Project (10 minutes) - Tell pupils that they are going to interview a friend in another school about his/her timetable and tell the class about it. - Give pupils time to do the project in class in groups. - Call some pupils to present theirs orally in the front of the class - Give feedback - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook.
