UNIT 3: WHAT DAY IS IT TODAY?

Lesson 3 (1, 2, 3)

I. Objectives.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

1. Knowledge:

- Pronounce the sounds of the letters ir, ur and er in the words first, Thursday and her respectively.

- Pronounce the letter clusters ir in first, ur in Saturday, and er in her.

- Listen and circle the correct words completing the gapped sentences. Then say the sentences aloud.

- Say the chant: What do you do on ?

- Sentence Patterns: Revision

- Vocabulary: Revision

2. Skills: Listening and speaking.

3. Attitudes/ Quality:

- Ss love their countries.

- To help Ss know how to make friends.

Objectives.
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Have Ss play the game: 
- Slap the board.
Task 1. Listen and repeat
- Have Ss look at words in part 1.
- Let Ss pay attention to the letters colored.
- Have Ss learn to produce the sound of the letters “ir” and “ur” “er”.
- Play the CD and ask Ss to listen.
- Play the CD again and ask Ss to repeat each line of the text in chorus.
- Have Ss read in groups/ in pairs.
- Check some ss.
Task 2. Listen and circle. Then write and say aloud. 
- Have pupils look at the sentences and guess the suitable words to circle. 
- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and circle. 
- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T gives the answer:
- Have pupils to write on the board the sentences.
- Check and correct.
Task 3. Let’s chant
- Tell Ss that they are going to chant
- Have them read the chant and help them the difficult words
- Play the recording (3 times)
- Divide the class into 2 Gs: one chants the Qs and other chants the answers
- Let Ss report (note s in Fridays )
- Read aloud part 1 
- Chant again
- Asking Ps to focus on the structure once again.
-Retell the content of the lesson.
- Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures
- Work in groups to play the game

- Ss know how to greet and respond to greeting.

Task 4. Read and answer
- Have Ss read and do the task.
Set the scene: “you are going to read the questions and find out the answer.”
- Ask Ss to read the questions and answer Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary
- Call on some Ss to report their answers. 
- Make a few questions to check Ss’ comprehension of the sentences.
- Have the whole class read each sentence in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation
- Give the keys:
1. Her name is Mai. 
2. It’s Monday. 
3. No, she doesn’t 
4. She goes swimming and.....
Task 5. Write about you
- Tell Ss they are going to answer some Qs about themselves 
- Ask Ss to work in individual
- Ask 2 Ss to write on the board
- Ask some Ss to read their answers aloud to the class. The rest of the class listen and give comment
- Make a few questions to check pupils’ comprehension of the reading text
Task 6. Project
- Ask Ss to ask one and complete the card. Then report the results to the class 
- Practice ask/answer about days of the week and weekly activities

Task 1. Look, listen and repeat
- Hang the picture on the board, let sts talk about the picture

- Tell Ss: they are talking about dates, using What is the date today? It’s 
- Teach the new vocabulary: Birthday, January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December

Task 2. Point and say
- Explain: ordinal numbers are used for saying the dates of months: first - st second - 2nd third – 3rd ...

- Ask a pair complete the model, others listen and give comments then sts practice like the model
