Week: 19 Period: 73 UNIT 11: WHAT TIME IS IT? Lesson 1 (1-2) I. Objectives. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about time. - Sentence Patterns: What time is it? − It’s _____. - Vocabulary: seven, seven fifteen, seven-twenty five, seven-thirty, seven forty-five 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Save the time - Confident in learning and practice situations 4. Forming competence: - Communication and co-operation. - Problem solving and creativity II. Methods: - Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... III. Preparation. 1. Teacher’s preparation: CDs player, stereo, book. 2. Student’s preparation: Students’ aids: books, notebooks, workbooks. IV. Procedures. Homework (2’) - Ask pupils to play Bingo , using the numbers five, ten, fifteen, twenty, twenty-five, thirty, thirty-five, forty, forty-five, fifty and fifty-five. - Lead into new lesson Task 1. Look, listen and repeat - Ask pupils to look at the picture and answer the questions ?Who are they? ? Where are they? ?What are they talking about? - Give the meaning of the new words : breakfast, get up, what time; then say them aloud for pupils to repeat. - Play the recording for pupils to listen to the tape - Play the recording again and ask them to repeat a few times. - Ask pupils to practice in pairs. - Go round and check pupils can repeat and understand the dialogue. - Check some pairs. Ask other pupils to give comments. - Give comments. Task 2. Point and say - Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering questions about what someone is doing, using: *Structure: What time is it?à It’s - Ask pupils to write down the structure in their notebook. - Point to the first picture and model the task with one pupil. - Tell pupils to practice in pairs, using the structure. - Call a few pairs to act out the dialogue in front of the class. - Give feedback and correct mistakes of pronunciation. Task 3. Work in pairs. Ask your partners what time is it - Tell pupils that they are going to ask and answer questions about time. - Get pupils to work in pairs, one pupil asks What time is it? and the other looks at their wristwatch and answers It’s + (time) - Invite a few pairs to role-play in front of the class - Give comments. - Summary the lesson - Tell pupils to read the part 1 again. - Do exercises in workbook, learn by heart the new words and the structure. - Play game - Listen to the T's instruction. - Look at the pictures and give the answers - Listen and repeat - Listen - Listen and repeat - Work in pairs. - Practice in front of class. - Give comments. - Listen to the T's instruction. - Write down. - Work in pairs - Act out in front of the class - Listen to the T's instruction. - Work in pairs. - Role-play in front of the class - Listen and remember - Take note. ******************************************************************** Week: 19 Period:74 UNIT 11: WHAT TIME IS IT? Lesson 1 (3, 4, 5) I. Objectives. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about time. - Listen and tick the correct pictures. - Read the questions and write the answers, using the pictures. - Sing the song What time is it? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Listening, reading and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Save the time, in time. - Confident in learning and practice situations 4. Forming competence: - Communication and co-operation. - problem solving and creativity II. Methods: - Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Homework (2’) - Call a few pairs to the front of the class to ask and answer the question: What time is it? à It’s . - Lead into new lesson. Task 1. Listen and tick. - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to three dialogues about school subjects and tick the correct pictures. - Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the time. - Play the recording for pupils to listen and tick. - Get pupils to swap their answers before you check as a class. - Ask pupils to give answers - Play the recording again for pupils to listen and check - Give correct answers. Key: 1 b 2 b 3 a Task 2. Look and write - Tell pupils that they are going to write the answers to the question What time is it? with the picture cues. - Have them look at the other clocks and use the appropriate words to complete the answers. - Ask pupils to do the task. - Get pupils to swap their answers. - Ask pupils to give answers and other pupils to give comments. - Give correct answers. *Key: 2 It’s ten twenty. 3 It’s ten thirty. 4 It’s eleven fifty. Task 3. Let’s sing - Tell pupils that they are going to sing the What time is it? song. - Get pupils to read the lyrics in silence. Check their comprehension. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to get familiarized with the pronunciation, the stress, the rhythm and the intonation of the song. - Play the recording again, pausing after each line for pupils to repeat. - Play the recording once more for pupils to repeat the whole song. - Then have them practice in groups. - Call on some groups to sing the song in front of the class. The rest of the class clap their hands at rhythms. - Summary the lesson -Tell pupils to do exercises in workbook. - Ask pupils to practice singing at home - Answer the question. - Listen to the T's instruction. - Look at the pictures and say - Listen and tick. - Compare the answers - Give the answers. - Listen and check - Listen to the T's instruction. - Look and guess - Do the task - Swap the answers - Give answers and other pupils give comments. - Listen to the T's instruction. - Read - Listen - Listen and repeat. - Listen and repeat once more. - Work in groups - Sing and clap the hands at rhythms. - Listen and remember. - Take note Week: 19 Period: 75 UNIT 11: WHAT TIME IS IT? Lesson 2 ( 1, 2, 3) I. Objectives. - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about daily routines. - Sentence Patterns: What time do you ____? − I _____ at _____. - Vocabulary: get up, have breakfast, have dinner, go to bed 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. Attitudes/ Quality: - Save the time. - Confident in learning and practice situations 4. Forming competence: - Co-operation - Using language to ask and answer questions about daily routines. II. Methods: Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Look, listen and repeat. - Introduce picture and ask some questions about the situations in the picture: Who’s this? Where are they? What are they talking about? - Play the recording and ask pupils to look at their book and listen to the tape. - Explain new words: breakfast, dinner, lunch, go to bed. - Say aloud the words, then ask pupils to repeat the words a few times - Play the recording again and ask them to repeat a few times. - Have pupils write down the new words into their notebooks - Ask pupils work in pairs to practice the dialogue. - Go around and check pupils can repeat and understand the dialogue. - Check some pairs. - Others give comments. - Give comments. Task 2. Point and say. - Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about their timetables, using: *Structure: What time do you ...? I ... at + (time). - Say aloud the structure for pupils to repeat. - Call some pupils to read it aloud. - Ask pupils to write down them into their notebook. - Call on an open pair to the front of the class to give a model practice. - Ask pupils to work in pairs, then point at the timetable to ask and answer using the structure. - Call some pairs to practice the structure in front of the class. - Give feedback and correct mistakes of pronunciation Task 3. Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about daily routines. - Listen, draw the time on the clock faces. - Read the questions, draw the time on the clock faces, and write the answer. - Play the game Pass the secret! - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Save the time. - Confident in learning and practice situations 4. Forming competence: - Co-operation - Using language to ask and answer questions about daily routines. II. Methods: Communicative approach, group Ss and T's activities, play as a character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by practising, discussion group, technical present.... Listen and draw the time. - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to Tom’s daily routine and draw the hands of the clocks. - Tell them to look at the clock in each picture and explain that they have to draw the hands to show the time. - Play the recording twice for pupils to listen and draw - Ask pupils to give answers - Play the recording again for pupils to listen and check - Give correct answers * Key: b 7.30 c 8.15 d 8.00 e 9.00 Task 2. Draw and write the time. - Tell pupils that they are going to draw the time and write about their daily routines. - First, ask them to look at the questions and identify what daily routines they are going to write about. - Give pupils time to do the task in pairs. - Call four pupils to read aloud and write their answers in the board. - Ask other pupils to give feedback. - Give the correct answers. * Key: Task 3. Let’s play - Tell pupils that they are going to play the game Pass the secret! - Divide the class into groups of six or seven. Ask them to sit in circles. - Pupil 1 in each circle whispers a sentence to Pupil 2, e.g. I get up at six o’clock. Then Pupil 2 whispers the same sentence to Pupil 3. - Continue until the last pupil has heard the sentence and said it aloud. - The group that says the sentence correctly in the shortest time will win the game. - Call on one group to act out the game in front of the class. - Summary the lesson - Tell pupils to do exercises in workbook at home - Talk - Listen to the T's instruction. - Look at the pictures and guess. - Listen and draw - Give the answers. - Listen and check. - Listen to the T's instruction. - Look and guess - Do the task - Read and write - Other pupils give feedback - Listen to the T's instruction. - Play game - Listen and remember - Take note *********************************************************************
