Week: 14 Period: 53 UNIT 9: WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Lesson 1 (1, 2, 3) I. Objectives: - By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about what someone is doing. - Sentence Patterns: What’s he / she doing? − He’s / She’s___. - Vocabulary: watching a video, listening to music, writing a dictation, reading a text Skills: - Listening and speaking. 3. Homework (2’) - Ask pupils to play Bingo to revise verbs for learning activities in the classroom. - Lead into new lesson Task 1. Look, listen and repeat. (10’) - Tell pupils that they are going to read a story in which pupils ask and answer questions about what someone is doing in the classroom. - Ask pupils to look at the picture and answer the questions ?Who are they? ? Where are they? ?What are they talking about? - Play the recording for pupils to listen to the tape - Play the recording again and ask them to repeat a few times. - Ask pupils to practice in pairs. - Go round and check pupils can repeat and understand the dialogue. - Check some pairs. Ask other pupils to give comments. - Give comments. Task 2. Point and say.(20 minutes) - Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering questions about what someone is doing, using: * Structure: What’s he/she doing? He’s/She’s ... - Give the meaning of the new phrases: watching a video, listening to music, writing a dictation, reading a text; then say them aloud for pupils to repeat. - Ask pupils to write down the new words and the structure in their notebook. - Point to the first picture and model the task with one pupil. - Tell pupils to practice in pairs, using the structure. - Call some pairs to practice in front of the class - Give feedback and correct mistakes of pronunciation. Work in pairs. Ask your partners what one of your classmates is doing in the classroom. - Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering questions about what one of their classmates is doing in the classroom, using What’s he/she doing? and He’s/She’s ... - Get pupils to work in pairs, one asking and the other giving the answer. - Invite a few pairs to role-play in front of the class - Give comments. Listen and tick. - Tell ss that they are going to listen to three dialogues about what someone is doing and tick the correct pictures. - Have pupils look at pictures on page 73 of the Student Book to the similarities and differences among them. - Check understanding - Guess the answer - Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and tick the correct pictures. - Ask Ps to compare the answer with the partner. - Play the recording again pupils check their answers. - Give the answer.1-b;2-c;3-a - Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text. Task 2. Look and write - Ask them to look at 4 pictures to identify what the character in each picture is doing. - Ask ss to read the questions and write the answers - Get them to work in pairs. - Give 5 minutes to do the task indepently. - Go around offering help, if necessary. - Call on some Ps to report the answers. - Have Ps read aloud the sentences they have written. - Ask some Ps to read aloud. Let’s play. - Tell pupils that they are going to play Charades. - Follow the procedure in Games in Introduction - Divide them into groups of three. Pupil 1 mimes a classroom activity (e. g. reading a book, listening to music) without making any sounds or lip movements. Pipil 2 points to Pupil 1 and asks What’s he/ she doing? Pupil 3 answers (e.g. He’s/She’s reading a book.) - The pupils in groups take turns asking and answering the questions. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. He’s/She’s ... - Lead into new lesson Task 1. Look, listen and repeat. (10’) - Introduce picture and ask some questions about the situations in the picture: Who’s this? Where are they? What are they talking about? - Play the recording and ask pupils to look at their book and listen to the tape. - Explain new words: making a paper boat, painting masks, making a puppet, making paper planes. - Say aloud the words, then ask pupils to repeat the words a few times - Play the recording again and ask them to repeat a few times. - Have pupils write down the new words into their notebooks - Ask pupils work in pairs to practice the dialogue. - Go around and check pupils can repeat and understand the dialogue. - Check some pairs. - Others give comments. - Give comments. Task 2. Point and say. (13 minutes) - Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answering questions about what people are doing, using: *Structure: What are they doing? They’re ... - Say aloud the structure for pupils to repeat. - Call some pupils to read it aloud. - Ask pupils to write down them into their notebook. - Call on an open pair to the front of the class to give a model practice. - Ask pupils to work in pairs, then point at the timetable to ask and answer using the structure. - Call some pairs to practice the structure in front of the class. - Give feedback and correct mistakes of pronunciation Task 3. Let’s talk (7 minutes) - Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering questions about where their classmates are and what they are doing, using Where is he/she? What’s he/she doing? Where are they? and What are they doing? - Ask them to work in pairs: one asks the questions and the other gives the answers. - Set a time limit for the class to practice - Go around the class and offer help, if necessary. - Call a few pairs to act out their conversation. - Give feedback. - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Knowledge: - Ask and answer questions about what people are doing. - Listen and number the pictures in the correct order. - Read the questions and write the answers, using the pictures. - Sing the song What are they doing? - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision 2. Skills: - Listening, reading and speaking. 3. Attitudes/ Quality: - Love their class - United friend 4. Forming competence: - To know talk about their class - Practise in pairs II. Homework (2’) - Revising the previous lesson by asking some pairs to ask and answer about what people are doing, using what are they doing ?They are Task 1. Listen and number: - Tell ps that they’re going to listen to a text about what some pupils are doing at breaktime and number the picture. - Ask them to look at the pictures and identify what the characters in each picture are doing a: They are playing badminton b : They are making paper plane c : They are making a kite - Play the recording - Play it again - Monitor the activities and offer help if necessary * Key : A.2 B.4 C.3 D.1 Task 2. Look and write: - Tell pupils that they are going to answer the questions about the what children are doing, using the picture cues. - Ask them to look at four pictures to identify what the characters in each picture are doing. - Ask them to read the questions and write the answers, using picture cues - Get pupils to work in pairs, if necessary - Control the class and offer help if necessary. - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class - Invite some pairs to act out the dialogues (if there is enough time) Task 3. Let’s sing: What are they doing? - Tell pupils that they are going to sing the song what are they doing?, teach the song follow the procedure in teaching the unit components in in production - Have them read each line of the lyrics aloud. Check comprehension - Play the recording all the way through. Ask pupils to do choral and individual repetition of the song line by line un til they get familiarized with the pronunciation, the stress, the rhythm and the tune of the song - Play the recording again and get pupils to sing along with the recording - Divide class in to two groups: One sing the questions and the other sing the answers. The rest of the class sings the song together, clapping hands - Show all the picture in part 3 & 4 pupils look at these and make question and answers. - Retell the content of the lesson. - Do exercises in the workbook. Learn by heart the new words and structures again - Look at the pictures and answer the questions - Listen to the teacher and look at the pictures in the book - Who are they? - What are they doing? - Listen and number - Checking answers - Swap and check each other - Listen to the teacher - Look at the pictures and identify who and what are they doing? - Find out the answers for each picture - Pair work - Swap and check each other - Correct if necessary - Listen to the T’s instruction - Read the song - Look at the book and listen to the recording then repeat in choral and individual - Sing along - Sing in the groups - Find out questions and answers, copy the sentence pattern in the notebook *********************************************************************
